365 Days of DC House Ads, Day 204: Why I wish I lived in 1970 and had a buck twenty-five

House ad for Super DC Giant #S-17 [Love 1970] and S-16 [The Best of the Brave and the Bold] (both September-October 1970); printed in World's Finest Comics #196 (September 1970)
Ad designed and lettered by Gaspar Saladino

Covers of Super DC Giant #S-17 [Love 1970] and S-16 [The Best of the Brave and the Bold] (both September-October 1970). Love 1970: pencils and inks by Nick Cardy, letters by Gaspar Saladino. Best of the Brave and the Bold: framing art pencils and inks by Murphy Anderson, letters by Gaspar Saladino; Batman/Flash issue image reprinted from The Brave and the Bold #67 (August-September 1966): pencils by Carmine Infantino, inks by Joe Giella, Batman's face redrawn by Murphy Anderson. Metamorpho issue image is a recreation pencilled and inks by Murphy Anderson of the cover of The Brave and the Bold #57 (December 1964-January 1965), originally pencilled by Ramona Fradon and inked by Charles Paris. Whew!

There were actually five annual-sized Super DC Giant issues covered-dated September 1970. Here's the other three:

Cover of DC Super Giant #S-13 [Binky] (September-October 1970), pencils and inks by Henry Scarpelli

Cover of DC Super Giant #S-14 [Top Guns of the West] (September-October 1970), pencils and inks by Joe Kubert, letters by Gaspar Saladino

Cover of DC Super Giant #S-15 [Western Comics] (September-October 1970), pencils and inks by Joe Kubert, letters by Gaspar Saladino

That is a heck of a lot of comic for a buck twenty-five total. Truly, in 1970, comics were your best entertainment value.

You think the giants were a good deal? Check out that cover on Top Guns of the West. You could could get a steak, a beer, and a round-trip overnight flight for one measly dollar!
