Thanks for this, Bully! I figured Ross was homaging another cover, but I didn't know which one.

I do find it interesting how the cover has completely flipped. The original is a boy and his dog marveling at the skill and power of the heroes, while the homage is Superman marveling at the heart and courage of those who endured the tragedy. You could say it's a metaphor for how much things have changed: instead of looking up to our heroes, our heroes look up to us.
