Comic ads oughta be fun!

Remember when even the Marvel ad department had a sense of humor?
Power Man and Iron Fist ad

And, you know, back in the day, that ad worked. It got me to pick up my first issue of a comic I'd previously avoided because I thought it had a doofy name.

'Cheaper than a doctor bill'. Nice touch.

These *were* great! I completely remember them as they came out. The Power Man one was even better, if I remember right. Lotsa shouting.

And, now.. the comic geek in me notices that it was drawn by Mr. Sienkiewicz! Or however you spell that! I've grown up! Geekily!

Oh, wait.. just noticed that you mentioned that. Opps. But I seriously got it without your caption! I swear!

Thanks for the memory, Li'l Bull!

(Great drawing!)

foldedsoup is right, the one with Luke on it essentially had him threatening the reader. Classic stuff. I miss "PM&IF," which was always a solid, fun comic book.

I loved that ad, it got me to buy the book. And I din't even know who Power Man was.

It would be cool if this was reprinted in the Essentials.

This was fun. Do you remember the John Byrne one with She-Hulk threatening to come over and rip up all of your X-men books if you didn't buy HER comic?

Haw!

I love this ad and the matching one with Luke Cage.

Whoops, Michael! I hadn't even seen you posted it months ago. No trambling on your ideas intended or meant in the least.

If I remember the Luke Cage-featuring companion ad correctly, it depicted him looking like he was going to reach out of the comic book and rip you apart if you didn't buy his comic. That, and it was full of lots of, "BUY MY COMIC, FOOL, OR I'LL BUST YO' HEAD!" Or something like that. Classic. It didn't get me to buy Power Man and Iron Fist (mostly because I saw the ads in back issues and the comic was already cancelled) but they sure are memorable, aren't they?

For even more geekiness, some three years after the post, this ad wasn't from Secret Wars II, but Secret Wars I.
